Dear Colleagues and Friends of ESMAC,
Those of you who have attended an ESMAC conference in the past will know about the unique and charming character of our society!
It combines both scientific and medical advances in movement analysis and incorporates these into clinical application. The biomedical engineer, and the physiotherapist, the orthotist and the movement scientist, the orthopedic surgeon and the prosthetist, the rehabilitation physician and biomechanical engineer all meet together with mutual respect of each other’s knowledge and professional expertise. Hence, in our society, researchers and clinicians are equally valued, as we are all ultimately interested in improving treatment of gait and movement disorders.
From last year’s meeting in Seville, Spain, we will move to the far north this year to Trondheim, Norway, to meet for the 26th annual ESMAC conference (6-9 September 2017). Along with traditional sessions dedicated to clinical aspects of gait analysis, basic science, and medical technology, this year we will offer a new type of format combining all three fields. This session is entitled “Evidence based Clinical Reasoning” and will include contributions of clinical cases supported by findings from the literature. The aim of this session is to document the relevance of movement analysis to medical progress and clinical practice.
Further, this year we will introduce a new structure for the Gait Course in the pre-conference program (4-6 September) reflecting the change in participants’ needs and interests over the past few years. Many participants attending the Course are now familiar with motion capture technology and are therefore primarily interested in learning about clinical interpretation of motion data. This will be reflected in the new content.
Finally, I am happy to announce our new professional partner. As of this year, the Czech company C-In has begun supporting us in all the organizational needs of the society and in future will be involved in organizing our annual events.
What is left to say? I am looking forward to meeting you all in Trondheim in September!
